Mr. Izaias Camara, age 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013. He was born July 6, 1927, in New Bedford, Mass., to Manuel M. Camara and Maria Gomes Camera.
Mr. Camara was a resident of Walton County. He was a born again Christian and a member of Southwide Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and enjoyed serving his Lord. He was a veteran of World War II, Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam Era, serving his country in the United States Air Force before retiring with over 21 years of service as a tech sergeant. He enjoyed walking and reading his Bible daily. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM # 108 in Freeport, Fla., and a member of the Eastern Star Chapter # 115 in DeFuniak Springs, Fla.
Mr. Camara was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gabriel M. Camara; and two sisters, Delores Texeira and Olivia Deane.
Mr. Camara is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Thelma Simmons Camara, of DeFuniak Springs; two daughters, Lenora C. Presley and husband, Dick, of Durant, Okla., Karen C. Dunn and husband, Gary, of New Brockton, Ala.; five sisters, Connie Noyer, Stella Tetreault, Carmen Boland, Leonora Camara and Mary Camara; three grandchildren, Madison Presley, Holly Dunn and Airika Dunn. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation services will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Ave., DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Southwide Baptist Church; 1307 Coy Burgess Loop, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435, with the Rev. Roger Richards officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
Floral arrangements are being accepted or donations may be made to the Gideons International at P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800.
