Mr. James Charles Carleton, age 71, passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014. He was born July 21, 1942, in Wyandotte, Mich., to Charles Carleton and Marie Starr Carleton.

Mr. Carleton was a resident of Grayton Beach, Fla. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era serving his country in the United States Navy serving on the U.S.S Bennington. He was an entrepreneur having started three successful businesses. He enjoyed golfing, boating, gardening, swimming and long walks on the beach. He never met a stranger because of his genuine warmth toward others. Missed forever will be his wonderful smile, helping hands, true empathy for others, patriotism and most of all his devotion to his family.
Mr. Carleton is preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Carleton is survived by his adored wife of 46 years, Carol Carleton of Grayton Beach; his beloved children, Patrick Carleton of Royal Oak, Mich., Martha Sampier and husband David of Lake Worth, Fla.; grandson, Tyler; two sisters, Barbara Sullivan and husband Wayne of London, Ohio, Joyce Zoellner and husband Bud of Jacksonville, Fla.; one niece, Christine Utter; five nephews, Brent Sullivan, Sean Sullivan, Brad Crouch, Jeff Crouch, Jim Zoellner; brother-in-law, Michael Crouch; and aunt, Irene Starr.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home, 150 E. Highway 20, Freeport, FL 32439, with Rev. Richard Murray officiating.
Floral arrangements are being accepted.
