James (Jim) D. Hinson Sr. passed away at his home on Friday June 6, 2014. Jim was born on September 5, 1926, to Alex B. and Eva G. Hinson in Akron Ohio. He was Baptist by faith and was a caring and thoughtful person who went out of his way to help others.

Jim grew up in Marianna Fla. where he volunteered at age 17 to join the U.S. Navy and fought for his country during Word War II. He attended Florida State University upon returning from the Navy. Jim spent more than 30 years with the Department of Highway Safety with the Division of Driver's License as a Senior Supervisor. His last work location was Pensacola, Fla. where he retired. He then moved to Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.
He is survived by his loving sisters Joan (Jo), Farris Erich (Ted); sons, Danny Hinson (Wendi), Tim Hinson (Pam); grandchildren Reid, Beth and Nathan; and nephews and niece: Dave Thomas, Debbie West (Eddie), and Kenny Farris. The family wishes to thank the doctors at Emerald Coast Cancer Clinic for their excellent care over the years; the services of Hospice, especially Tyra Ricci R.N. who lovingly took care of Jim; and his caregiver and buddy, Lonnie Owens, who was by his side with great care for several years.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday June 11, 2014, at McLaughlin Funeral Home located at 17 Chestnut Ave SE, Ft. Walton Beach, FL.
