John Raymond Power (1920 - 2013)

John Raymond Power, age 92, long-time resident of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., was called home by his Heavenly Father, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
John was born on Oct. 7, 1920, in Dalhousie, New Brunswick, Canada, to George A. and Elsie Power.
John enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a B-17 ball turret gunner, then in the Air Force as a navigator and with TAWC at Eglin Air Force Base, developing classified technology for the Gunship II during the Vietnam Conflict for the remainder of his 28 year U.S. military career, retiring in March 1970. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, World War II Airmen's Medal and numerous ribbons and medals.
After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, John returned to college and earned his degree in education. He taught elementary school for 11 years in the Okaloosa County Schools, with special assistance to students with problems in math. After his retirement from teaching, he continued to be active in the local schools by substituting for many years.
He leaves behind two daughters, Betty and her husband Ray, as well as Susan and her husband Charlie, both of Fort Walton Beach; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law, Jeannette Power and Ruth Marquand; as well as special loving caregivers, Leah Lewick, Margaret Foster, Elizabeth White, Alice Luton, Stacy Reiling and Marcella Browning. The family of John Power would like to thank Gentiva Hospice of the Emerald Coast, Emerald Coast Hospice for their loving care of John, especially Tracy and Bonnie.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sadie Agnes Bright Power; brother, Lawrence Power; sisters, Winnie Feldon and Mary Margaret Morency; and great-grandson, John Seth Power.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, beginning at 9:30 a.m., at St. Mary Catholic Church, 110 St. Mary Ave. S.W., Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548, with the Mass of the Christian Burial following at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at 1:15 p.m., at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola Navy Station, Pensacola, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John's name to or Emerald Coast Hospice located at 340 N.W. Beal Parkway, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548.
