Joe Harris, age 81, entered into the Lord's and many beloved family and friend's presence on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at his home in Crestview, Fla.
Joe was born on July 8, 1932, to Obie and Louise Peeples Harris in Fort Pierce, Fla. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crestview. Joe received both Bachelor's and two Masters' Degrees from the University of Florida, Troy State University, and the University of West Florida.
He proudly served his country in the Florida National Guard, 12 years in the U.S. Army, and 10 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. His foreign tours of duty included the Korean Conflict, two tours in Vietnam, Germany, Okinawa, and Thailand.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse, Faye; two sisters; and one of his best friends, Tom. Joe is survived by his wife, Pat Harris; four children, Steve Harris, Connie Berrones, Karen King and Louise Harris; his spouse's children, Devanie Reed, Lessa Moody and Tricia Reed; his sister, Mary Beth Nickolson. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
There will be a time of visitation held on Friday, May 30, 2014, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., at Heritage Gardens Funeral Home with funeral services to begin at 4:30 p.m. Interment with military honors will follow in Heritage Gardens Cemetery.
Flowers are being accepted or donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Building Fund, 171 Hickory Ave., Crestview, FL.
