Mr. Paul Balentine, Jr., age 63, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013. He was born Sept. 11, 1949, in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., to Paul Balentine, Sr., and Bertha Burns Balentine.

Mr. Balentine was a resident of Freeport, Fla. He was Baptist by faith and a member of East Baptist Church. He graduated from Walton High School in 1967. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era serving his country in the United States Marine Corp, having received two purple hearts and a bronze star for his service in combat. He graduated from Gulf Coast College receiving his associate's degree in law enforcement. He enjoyed coaching football and playing softball. He enjoyed providing the mascot for the Freeport Bulldogs. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. He worked as a school resource officer for many years and enjoyed helping the children. He was also an avid Florida Gator and Miami Dolphins fan. He also worked as a deputy for the Walton County Sherriff's Department for many years.
Mr. Balentine was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Allen Rhodes.
Mr. Balentine is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Janice Balentine of Freeport, Fla.; one son, Gregory Balentine and wife, Elizabeth, of Kentucky; one brother, Robert Rhodes and wife, Cindy, of Dorcas, Fla.; one sister, Rebecca Gregory of DeFuniak Springs; five grandchildren, Greggory Balentine, Brenden Balentine, Christopher Balentine, Christina Balentine and David Balentine; father and mother in law, Edward and Betty Tucholski; one niece, Bethany Gregory; and many other nieces and nephews.
Visitation services will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Park Ave., DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2013, at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Park Ave., DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435 with the Rev. Joel Glenn officiating.
Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, with military honors.
Floral arrangements are being accepted.
