William Dean "Wig" Barrow of Crestview, Fla., was born Aug. 20, 1931, to George W. Barrow, Sr. and Opal Colvin Barrow. He went to his eternal rest on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, age 81. Wig was Valedictorian of Crestview High's class of 1948. He graduated in 1953 from the University of Florida with his Bachelor's in Political Science and a Juris Doctorate in Law. He served two years as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Maine. After returning to Okaloosa County he served as County Prosecutor for 12 years. He was elected President of the Bar Society of the First Judicial Circuit in 1960. Wig was elected to the Florida Senate in 1966, participating in the 1967 Special Session which wrote Florida's current Constitution. He was the 1969 recipient of the Allen Morris Award for most effective in debate. He practiced law in Okaloosa County until 1990. Author of "Florida Senate Yellow River Code."
Wig is preceded in death by both parents and his older brother, George, Jr. He is survived by Marguerite Engelke Barrow; his daughter, Kim (Allen) Bell; grandchildren, Sara (Erik) Fordyce and Josh (Katie) Bell; and great-grandchildren, Allison, Abigail and John David.
He is also survived by brother, Mark (Mary Lynn); sister-in-law, Mary; and many beloved nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at First United Methodist Church Crestview on Friday, April 5, 2013. Family visitation at 3 p.m. in the Crossroads Center, Memorial Service at 4 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Crossroads Center.
