James Manix, 86, of Valparaiso, Fla., passed away peacefully at home on May 6, 2013.

He was born on June 22, 1926, to Amos and Jessie Manix. James served in the U.S. Marine Corps for a few years before joining the U.S. Air Force. After serving 24 years in the U.S. Air Force, he retired as a major. He then went on to teach in Okaloosa County for 16 years. After teaching, he was a tester for ASVAB and a realtor for 16 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Evelyn Manix; daughter, Kim (Larry) Mott; grandchildren, Blake, Chandler, Morgan and Taylor; three other children from a previous marriage, Mike, Marc, and Dean of California; and several other grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter from a previous marriage, Jan.
Funeral Service will take place 11 a.m., Thursday, May 9, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Valparaiso. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Sunset Cemetery with full military honors.
