Joyce (Howell) Carney, age 71, passed away peacefully on Aug. 19, 2014, surrounded by family and friends. Joyce was born on Oct. 17, 1942, in Florala, Ala. to Aaron and Jean Howell. Joyce attended Choctawhatchee High School and then met and married the love of her life, Steve John Carney, to whom she was married over fifty years.
Steve John, Joyce and their four children traveled the world during his 20 years serving in the United States Air Force. Joyce loved her family and extended family first and foremost. Joyce was a purchasing agent for several government contractors until she retired in 2009. Joyce's favorite activity was to go to Biloxi with Maxine Stapleton (her Aunt Mackie) to watch the shows and play the slots and boy she was good at it.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Steve John; her son, Stephen Mark; her parents, Aaron and Jean Howell; and her sister, Gloria Morgan. She is survived by her three daughters, Donna Carney, Catherine Carpenter and Stephanie Sammons. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Colby Rhodes, Ross Carpenter, Becca Carpenter, Spencer Rhodes, Jonathan Carney and Calvin Sammons. As well as her sister-in-laws, Barbara Ryan and Linda Carney and her many beloved relatives in Florida and Mississippi.
Joyce is also survived by her life long friends Elaine Hendren, the Page Family, Janet and Bill Thompson, Janie White, Debbie White and Nicki Chamberlin. The Carney family would like to extend a special thank you to James Findley, Jenny Jones and Kathleen Windham for their loving care during her extended illness.
There will be a time of Visitation held at 3 p.m. at Heritage Gardens Funeral Home in Niceville, Fla. on Friday Aug. 22, 2014 with a celebration of life to begin at 3:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery.
Joyce will always be remembered for her caring and compassion for others. Fly my sweet angel – Fly.
