Ruth Cantrell Obituary

After an extended battle with lung disease, Ruth Ann Cantrell, age 63, passed away in her sleep with her loving husband Barry at her bedside on Nov. 15, 2009.
Ruth was born on April 28, 1946, in Estherville, Iowa. She was raised in Goodland, Minn., and though she never returned to that state to live after she joined the Air Force and moved away, Goodland always kept a piece of her heart. In honoring Ruth's wishes, Goodland will become the final home of her ashes this spring.
Ruth loved her country, and served in the U.S. Air Force for 12 years in the medical field; in fact, she was the first female orthopedic technician in the Air Force. Ruth was honorably discharged from the military as a disabled veteran in 1975, and she married the love of her life, Cecil Barton Cantrell Jr. (Barry) the same year.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 34-plus years, Barry Cantrell; her children: daughter, LeAnne Eveland; daughter, Becki Davis and husband David; son, Walter Cantrell and wife Christina; her grandchildren, Daniel Llewellyn, Cameron Llewellyn, Michael Scholten, Brittany Eveland, Lauren Davis, Trent Bagley and Leah Cantrell; her sisters, Penney Toler, Judy Bayerkohler and husband Larry, Debra Bailey and husband Gary, and Betty Miller; and her brother, Jim Wohlers and wife Margie.
Ruth was an avid horsewoman, reader, mother, wife and friend. She is already dearly missed, but her memory will be carried on by the many, many people whose lives and hearts she touched.
A celebration of life will be held in Ruth's honor on Friday, Nov. 20, at Two Trees in the Fort Walton Beach Golf Club at 3 p.m. Flowers may be sent to Two Trees after 2 p.m. Friday, or donations may be made to local animal shelters in Ruth's memory.
