Richard was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 4, 2014, at the age of 60, following a valiant and lengthy battle with cancer. Richard passed away in the loving arms of his wife, Donna, at Twin Cities Hospital in Niceville, Fla. Born the son of Carlos and Shirley Crandall in Jackson, Mich., Rick left home at the age of 18 and proudly served his country for 13 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Rick then continued his service to country with 25 years dedicated service to the Defense Logistics Agency, serving the military of this nation. He visited all 50 U.S. states, and 18 countries. Rick loved to travel with Donna and also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Rick is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Donna Crandall; his son, James Crandall; daughter, Elizabeth Crandall; step-sons, Jeremy and Benjamin Wahl; parent, Carl Crandall; sister, Debrah (Larry) Gerth; grandchildren, Jaden, Jayla, Hayden, Alisa, Hannah, and Emily; sister in-law, Dianne (Ron) Gallahair; and many loved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Crandall and stepson, Thomas Smith. Rick was loved and admired by all who met him.
He was the most optimistic person anyone could ever meet. He was everyone's cheerleader. "You can do it. You can do anything you put your mind to!" His words and spirit will forever resonate with everyone he touched.
Rick's motto in life, "I've had a great life, I have a wonderful family and friends and have no regrets. If I leave today, I will have lived the best life surrounded by the best family and friends."
"Don't give up, don't ever give up."
A memorial service honoring Rick's life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Twin Cities Funeral Home in Niceville, Fla. Our sincere thanks go out to his many caring friends and family, who are welcome to attend. Informal attire is acceptable.
