Mr. Jerry Murphy, age 67, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014. He was born May 20, 1946, in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., to Alcus and Trudie Andrews Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was a lifelong resident of Walton County. He was Baptist by faith and a member of Baldwin Avenue Baptist Church. He worked as a Law Enforcement Officer with the Walton County Sherriff's Department for 31 years before retiring as a Captain. He enjoyed playing musical instruments especially the piano.
Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Rushing; and father-in-law, Delmar Rushing.
Mr. Murphy is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Cindi Murphy, of DeFuniak Springs; son, Len Murphy, of South Carolina; two daughters, Natasha Cooper and Nikki Pitman and husband, James, all of DeFuniak Springs; two sisters, Lorraine Cotton of Panama City and Carolyn Commander of DeFuniak Springs; and six grandchildren, Tristan Phillips, Caylee Cooper, Hannah Cooper, Riley Phillips, Brynlee Pitman, Saylor Pitman, Zoe Rushing and Carlie Rushing; also by his mother-in-law, Jewel Rushing, of DeFuniak Springs; and special brother-in-law, Danny Infinger.
Visitation services were held Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike McVay, the Rev. Wilbur Williams and the Rev. Richard Murray officiating.
Burial will follow at the Magnolia Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wilmer McCormick, Ronnie Taylor, Chaise Nowling, Ron Kelly, Lester Skipper, Tommy Kirkpatrick, Jeremy Commander and Doug Rushing. Honorary pallbearers will be the ""Beats Me"" Band, Bill Holliday, Donnie Taylor and the Walton County Sherriff's Department Honor Guard.
Floral arrangements are being accepted.
