Ty Autry Pennington entered the world on Sept. 23, 1969, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 20, 2014, at the age of 44. He was a graduate of Choctawhatchee High School in 1988. Ty was a long time resident of the area until 2008 when he re-connected with his life-long passion of the outdoors and relocated to Breckenridge, Colo., to enjoy his passion every day. Ty became a successful rancher in Rand, Colo., where he lived part-time on two western-style ranches, living his dream of preserving and sharing part of the American West with others. Ty was known for his generosity with his friends and business associates and opened his ranches to anyone who enjoyed the same passion. He hosted nearly every kind of outdoor enjoyment on his ranches for customers, friends, and organizations.
He sponsored events for the Wounded Warriors Project, Legacy Camp at Keystone Science School, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Never Summer Rodeo, 4H and FFA in Walden, Colorado, Children Special Needs Network, and others as a part of his dream to share the outdoors with others. His friends and family knew Ty was truly happy when he was 'at the ranch.' In recent years, Ty's interest in conservation and nature grew and he began breeding elk and moose on his ranches, something that gave him enormous pride in his work. He was an active participant and promoter of the Colorado Elk Breeders Association, the National Elk Breeders Association, the Exotic Wildlife Association, and the Canadian Elk Association.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa "Missie" Pennington; their children, Trent and Kyle Pennington and Nic and Zach Shepherd; parents, Bill and Bobbi Pennington of Shalimar, Fla.; brother, Brian Pennington (wife, Kim) of Shalimar, Fla.; and niece and nephew, Laura and Mark Pennington of Shalimar, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 403 Racetrack Rd, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., at 2 p.m., on Monday, April 28, 2014. The Rev. Sterling Boykin officiating. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a donation the family invites you to make an expression of condolence to the Legacy Camp Program at Keystone Science School 1053 Soda Ridge Road, Keystone, CO 80435, in Ty's memory.
