Robert Hughes, age 80, of Crestview, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 5, 2014. He was born in Hamburg, N.Y., on Oct. 13, 1933, to Bertha and Joseph Hughes. After serving in the United States Air Force he went to college and received his master's degree in Art Education. Robert taught in Greece, N.Y., and Rochester, N.Y., for 30 years. He specialized in teaching photography and jewelry. Robert and his family traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. His family was the most important part of his life. Robert was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and Crestview Senior Circle. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph, Nelson and Donald; and a sister, Louise.

Robert is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sally Hughes; daughter, Cheryl Songster, and husband, Tim, of Crestview; son, Gary Hughes, and wife, Michele, of New City, N.Y.; grandsons, Rick and John Songster; granddaughters, Analeigh and Lauryn Hughes; sisters, Katherine, Beatrice and Alberta; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014, at 2 p.m., at the Chapel of Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Robert's memory to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 560 Sylvan Ave Suite 1210, Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632, or the building fund at Woodlawn Baptist Church.
