Mr. Austin Douglas "Doug" Penton passed away Monday, May 19, 2014, following a period of declining health. He was 95. Doug was born in Pensacola, Fla., on June 30, 1918, to the late Moses and Allie Mae Penton. In addition to his parents, Doug is preceded in death by his wife, Katherine B. Penton; son, Robert D. Penton; and brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Vivian Penton. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Hilton Hill; grandchildren, Lauren Hill and Jordon Hill; daughter-in-law, Ruth Penton; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Doug graduated from Pensacola High School and The University of Florida. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 21 years as a lieutenant colonel. His service included the Pacific Theater during World War II and the Korean Conflict. After he retired from the Air Force, he sold real-estate and was VP of First National Bank and Trust in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. He was a long time member of Shalimar United Methodist Church. He had a special love for fishing, grilling, jazz music, and his many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, May 23, 2014, at Shalimar United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends one hour prior for a visitation. Graveside service will be held at Bayview Memorial Park in Pensacola at 1:30 p.m.
