Cassie Hagan Rogers, age 87, passed away peacefully at the North Okaloosa Medical Center, Monday night, June 23, 2014, following a short illness. Her life was spent in service to others both family and friends. As a nurse she was the ultimate caregiver during minor and major illness and also would care for babies as they were always a special joy in her life. Cassie was born in Troy, Ala., and had resided in Okaloosa County since 1929. Mrs. Rogers graduated from Seton School of Nursing in Austin, Texas, as a registered nurse and worked for many years as a RN in the local area. She was a member of the Airport Road Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerle Rogers; and daughter, Leah P. Goolsby. Survivors include her son, David LaVerle Rogers of Laurel Hill, Fla.; son-in-law, John M. Goolsby and wife Debra of Destin, Fla.; stepson, Kevin Goolsby and wife Melissa; step-grandson, John Spencer from Navarre, Fla.; and many nephews, nieces, brothers and family. Her legacy will continue through her namesake, Cassie Calton, her great-great-niece.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home in Crestview, Fla., with Mark Dillman and Keith Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in Almarante Cemetery in Laurel Hill. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014, at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home.
