Karen Lee Cowell, age 59, Crestview, Fla. joined her husband, Curtis Elwood Cowell in Heaven, on Aug. 2, 2014. She was born on Aug. 15, 1954. in Birmingham, Ala. to Robert Lee Sr. and Nellie J. Lee; and is survived by her son, Stan Allen Jones of Niceville, Fla. and his wife, Sheryl Jones; their children, Kenzie Cann, age 15, Allen Jones, age 14, Brian Jones, age 12, Chance Jones, age 9 and Kaleb Jones, age 8; step-son, Clayton Edward Cowell of Tampa, Fla. and his wife, Tamara Cowell; their children, Maciella Cowell, age 6 and Kalesi Cowell, age 5 months; siblings, Renee Lee, Judith Lee, Patricia Henry and Robert Lee Jr.; mother-in-law, Margarita Cowell; and sister-in-law, Jaynee Cowell. Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Elwood Cowell; mother, Nellie J. Lee; father-in-law, Casey Cowell; and step-daughter, Stephanie Cowell.

Karen graduated from Englewood High School in Jacksonville, Fla. in 1972. After graduation Karen pursued her Masters of Social Work. Karen devoted her life helping the elderly by passionately serving at Okaloosa County Counsel of Aging, Shoal Creek Rehabilitation Center, Covenant Hospice, and the American Elder Care. With a special interest in Alzheimer's Care, Karen was the chief liaison of the local chapter of the Alzheimer's Support Group from 1998 to 2006.
Services will be held on Aug. 7, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Niceville and will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Herstel Carter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Karen Lee Cowell to Covenant Hospice at 101 Hart St., Niceville, FL 32578.
