Bernadine Hohl, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. passed away on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at the age of 82.
She is survived by her children, Bernadette Shogren of Wisconsin, Mary Elizabeth of New Jersey, John Hohl of Wyoming, Robert Hohl of Kansas, Helena Kittleson of New York, Irene Pitt of Kansas, James Hohl of New York, Joseph Hohl of Kentucky and Raymond Hohl of Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Hohl; and a son, James Joseph.
She was born in Windber, Pa. on Jan. 29, 1932, and raised in Buffalo, N.Y. until meeting and marrying a career airman, James Hohl, in 1952. They traveled the world and raised nine children. Most of their time was served in Spain, where five of the children were born.
Bernadine taught the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) program every place she lived. She was a trained Catholic teacher and was recognized many times for her leadership. She earned the admiration and friendship of her fellow parishioners who relied on her experience and leadership.
After full retirement and more than a decade exploring the U.S. in increasingly larger RVs, Bernadine and James settled into Teresa Village, an Air Force retirement community in Fort Walton Beach.
Bernadine leaves a legacy of nine children, 23 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, in the Teresa Village Chapel, 321 Woodrow St. NE, Fort Walton Beach, FL. No flowers or memorials for the service please. A donation to in Bernadine's name will be gratefully appreciated. She will be interred with her husband in the Barrancas National Cemetery.
