Janet Alma (Yazinsky) Ketchum passed away unexpectedly Sept. 19, 2011, at Twin Cities Hospital. It is a great loss and sorrow to her large family and many friends.
Janet was born on Oct. 4, 1951, in Havre de Grace, Md., to the late John W. Yazinsky of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Priscilla O. Kippen of Gloucester, Mass. Janet moved to Valparaiso, Fla., in 1955, attended the first elementary school in Valparaiso, and graduated from Niceville High School in 1971. During her school years she will be remembered for her skill at girls softball - always a home runner. After graduating from high school she attended Okaloosa-Walton Vocational School.
Janet was an inventive and versatile homemaker skilled at many handicrafts and home-based industries. She loved and maintained the family home in Valparaiso, caring for and raising her beloved trees and flowers - all this while caring for her developmentally disabled son, Joshua, for 21 years. She was an active member of the Niceville United Methodist Church.
Janet was pre-deceased by a daughter, Jennifer Kay Thorton; and brothers, James Nicholas Yazinsky and Thomas Ferguson Jr. Janet is survived by her mother, Priscilla "Kippy" O. Kippen of Valparaiso; her two sons, Jeremiah Daniel Ketchum and Joshua Jerell Ketchum; her brother, Russell Kippen Ferguson; her sister, Janice Veronica (Yazinsky) Mercer; her close friend, John Burnos; and numerous nieces and nephews.
