Robert John "Bob" Tuohey of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away May 23, 2013. Bob was born in Rochester, N.Y., on April 12, 1927. At the age of 17, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy on Feb. 27, 1945, where he served aboard the heavy cruiser, USS Portland (CA-33) as a Fireman 211d Class participating in trans-Atlantic crossings bringing our troops home from the European Theatre. For his service, Bob was awarded the Victory Medal and the American Theatre Medal.

Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 16, 1949, assigned to Japan and was awarded the Army Occupation Medal (Japan). For his service during the Korean War, Bob was awarded the National Defense Service Medal; U.S. Air Force Good Conduct Medal; Korean Service Medal with One Bronze Star; and the U.N. Service Medal. It was during the Korean War where he met his bride, Tatsuko, in Japan.
Bob also served during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the U.S. Air Force Good Conduct Medal with three Bronze Loops; U.S. Air Force Good Conduct Medal with One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with One Battle Star; National Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Service Star; U.S. Air Force Longevity Service Award with Three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters; U.S. Air Force Outstanding Unit Award; and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. Bob retired from the Air Force on Oct. 1, 1972, with over 23 years of service.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, watching baseball and football games, traveling, jazz music, and listening to talk radio.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Mark Henry Tuohey and Ehna Bornkessel Tuohey, both of Rochester, N.Y.; his brother, Mark H. Tuohey, Jr., and his sister-in-law, Jo Tuohey. He was also preceded in death by his nephew, Seamus Tuohey.
He is survived by his wife, Tatsuko; his son, David and daughter-in-law, Gina Marie Tuohey (Graham), both of Slidell, La.; and his three grandsons, Jonathan, Joshua, and Joel Tuohey. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Joanne Meyer (Tuohey) of Hope Valley, R.I.; nieces and nephews include, Mary Lou McCabe (Meyer) of Westerly, R.I., Kathy Meyer of Hartland Four Corners, Vt., Patty Booker (Meyer) of Franklin, Mass., Karen Morena (Meyer) of Westerly, Julie Altimari (Meyer) of Westerly, Nancy Hasenauer (Tuohey) of Weston, Conn., Suzanne Morley (Tuohey) of Naples, Fla., Mary Jo Cluet (Tuohey) of Parkland, Fla., Mark Tuohey, III, of Washington, D.C., Timothy Tuohey of Buffalo, N.Y., and Michael Tuohey of Rochester, N.Y.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road, N.E. Fort Walton Beach, FL. Family will receive friends on hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery at 2 p.m.
