Mary Ellen Shirley Lepo, 87, formerly of Puyallup, Wash., peacefully passed on Aug. 22, 2013, in her apartment at The Hawthorne House assisted living facility located in the Bob Hope Air Force Enlisted Veterans community in Shalimar, Fla.

Mary was born in Greenville, S.C., the only child of Archibald Pinkney Shirley and Ellen O' Neil. She is survived by her three nephews and three nieces and their families. Mary was a retired civil service secretary and active volunteer. During her life she accompanied her husband on his military assignments in the United States, the Far East and Europe.
Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband, Fred E. Lepo, Jr., in 1995.
A celebration of her life was held at The Hawthorne House on Aug. 24, 2013, and it was attended by her nephew, Howard F. Modjeski II and his wife, Jane, as well as the residents and staff who had come to treasure her sunny personality. Mary will be inurned with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery in the Colonnades which is an outdoor cremains sanctuary.
She will be missed by family and her many friends around the world.
