Mildred L. Kimpel Born: Jan. 3, 1920; in Boone, IA Died: April 26, 2015; in Elgin, IL Mildred L. Kimpel, 95, of Algonquin, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. She was born on January 3, 1920, in Boone, Iowa the daughter of Leonard & Ethel (Tason) Dolak. She is survived by her children, Janet Krumwiede of Genoa, Ray (Cheryl) Kimpel of Algonquin, Richard (Suzi) Kimpel of Lake in the Hills and Patricia (John) Bradach of Lake in the Hills. 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Kimpel; children, Frank (Jackie) Kimpel, Ronald (Dianna) Kimpel, Ralph Kimpel and Cathy Molenkamp. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, 201 S. Main St., Algonquin. Lapsins, Alfreds - Cary  
Alfreds Lapsins Born: Aug. 8, 1923; in Latvia Died: April 29, 2015; in Cary, IL Alfreds Lapsins, 91, of Cary passed away peacefully with his family at his side on April 29, 2015. He was born August 8, 1923 in Latvia to Elsa and John Lapsins. In 1962 he married Cornelia Holthoff. Together they turned his fishing cottage into the family home where they resided for over 50 years. He had an excellent sense of humor, enjoyed working in his garden, doing crossword puzzles and walking his dog, Joey. He worked as a carpenter for Mohawk Construction for many years before his retirement. Alfreds is remembered with love by his wife of 53 years, Cornelia; his daughters, Cora (Don) Groble, Inga (Rob Wiggers) Lapsins, and Anita (Rusty) Smith; and his grandchildren, Corinne, Ellen, Billy, Kylie, Kelsey, Keaton, Lukas, and Marieke. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30pm on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Interment will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary. David E. MacLean Born: July 1, 1958 Died: April 27, 2015 David E. MacLean, age 56, of Lake in the Hills, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015, at Sherman Hospital with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born July 1, 1958, the son of Donald P. and Joan C. (Porter) MacLean. He is survived by his wife, Debby (Sheppard) MacLean; his children, Todd Fuller, Shannon Fuller, Sarah MacLean, Felicia MacLean and David MacLean, Jr.; and seven grandchildren; his brother, Donald (Mary) MacLean of Michigan; his sisters, Donna McCafferty of East Dundee, and Debbie (Donald) Maxwell of West Dundee; sister and brother-in-law, Marge and Rod Johnson of Arlington Heights. He has six nephews, Robert Wilson, Ian McCafferty, Taylor Peterson, John and Mike Sheppard; and two nieces, Amanda Sailors and Holly Sheppard. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Joshua MacLean; his parents, and maternal and paternal grandparents. A celebration of his life will be held at the Carpentersville Veterans of Foreign Wars, 301 Lake Marian Road, Carpentersville, IL 60110, on Saturday, May 9, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

McCarthy, Michael W. - Crystal Lake  
Michael W. McCarthy Born: Aug. 29, 1953 Died: April 13, 2015 Michael W. McCarthy passed away suddenly on April 13, 2015. He was born on August 29, 1953, to Mary (Riley) and Warren (Mac) McCarthy, in Woodstock. Mike grew up in Crystal Lake, and graduated from Crystal Lake Community High School in 1970. He received an Associate of Science degree from McHenry County College, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Illinois University, and did one year of Doctorate study at North Dakota State University. Mike was a jack of all trades, and worked a variety of jobs. The last few years, Mike worked on vintage cars, and in his spare time would do carpentry work. Mike loved being with family and friends. Whether it was at his favorite local bar, or at family gatherings, he always had a good time and a smile on his face. Mike had a laugh you would never forget. He loved being outdoors and putting up his tent to sleep under the stars. Mike is survived by his brother, Pat (Barb); sisters, Janice and Terri (Blake) Bryant; brother-in-law, Gary Personette; and sister-in-law, Peggy McCarthy. He also had many more family and friends who were very dear to him. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Clarie Personette; and brother, Dennis. There will be a celebration of Mike's life at the Lost Mind in Sycamore, IL on May 9, 2015, starting at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sycamore Moose Lodge #1506, where Mike was a member, and worked from 2004 to 2008.

Craig M. McConkey Born: Aug. 3, 1949; in Berwyn, IL Died:May 1, 2015; in Sycamore, IL Craig M. McConkey, 65 of Lake In The Hills, died on Friday, May 1, 2015, at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore. He was born in Berwyn, IL, on August 3, 1949, to Robert and LaVerne (Trcka) McConkey. Craig worked for many years at Shaeffer Spring in Elk Grove Village. He was a passionate Cub Fan, and enjoyed Interacting on the computer. He also enjoyed playing Bingo. He is survived by his mother, LaVerne Armiger; a sister, Patti (Greg) Eriksen; a nephew, Keith Eriksen; and a niece, Rachel Eriksen. He was preceded in death by his father. A memorial service will be held at the Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home 1211 N. Seminary Ave. Woodstock on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m.. McDonald, Duane W. - Woodstock  
Duane W. McDonald Born: Feb. 11, 1936 Died: May 3, 2015 Duane W. "Dewey" McDonald, 79, of Woodstock, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 11, 1936, in Germantown, WI to Arthur and Ardis (Householder) McDonald. He married Lorraine Schmarje on January 20, 1962 in Belvidere. Dewey was a veteran having served in the US Marine Corps. He worked as a machinist for the Woodstock Autolite and Union Special in Huntley. He was an avid Packers and Brewers fan. He enjoyed bowling, playing darts, and going fishing. He was an active member of the Woodstock Moose Lodge, and he was always there to lend a hand. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Janice McDonald; his son, Rodney McDonald; three step-daughters, Denice (Jim) Burnett, Nadine (Jim) Krause, and Roxane (Bill) Dicken; his longtime companion, Linda Coss; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Jim McDonald, and Larry McDonald; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorraine McDonald; and his brother, Dale McDonald. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. funeral service at the Schneider Leucht Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave. in Woodstock. John R. Metzen Born: Dec. 23, 1932; in Chicago, IL Died: April 25, 2015; in Scottsdale, AZ John Robert (Bob) Metzen , age 82, of Rio Verde, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2015, surrounded by family at Scottsdale Shea Medical Center. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 23, 1932. Son of the late John and Evelyn (Peat) Metzen. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, of 32 years; daughters, Cyndi (Dan) Van Cleve, Caryn (Jerry) Szmuc, Terri (Lisa Norris) DeWees and Traci (Robert) Lutherus; sons, Robert (Connie) Metzen and John (Yolanda) Metzen; 17 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Lucille (Joseph) Coco, Kathleen Kurgan; and many nieces and nephews. He owned and operated Bob's Service Center in Crystal Lake, for 32 years, and developed many close relationships that remain to this day. Upon retiring, Bob and Marge permanently relocated to Rio Verde, Arizona, in September 1991, where he became an active and beloved member of the community in which he is leaving behind many special friends. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015, at 12:30 p.m., at The Community Church of the Verdes, 25603 N. Danny Lane, Rio Verde, AZ. Pelz, Kathy A. - Spring Grove  
Kathy A. Pelz Born: Sept. 18, 1956; in Chicago, IL Died: April 25, 2015; in Spring Grove, IL Kathy A. Pelz, age 58, of Spring Grove, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 18, 1956, in Chicago to Roland and Anna (Niesner) Schneider and grew up in Barrington. Following her marriage to Richard E. Pelz on June 28, 1975, in Barrington, they built their first home in Marengo. After five years, they relocated back to Barrington, where Kathy and her husband managed a farm operation until 1987. Cary then became their home for over 10 years before moving to Spring Grove 12 years ago. A banking executive for her entire career, Kathy was employed for the past 25 years at McHenry Savings Bank in McHenry, where she was currently serving as Sr. Vice President and Chief Retail Banking Officer. Previously, Kathy was operations supervisor with Northern Federal Savings in Crystal Lake for five years and began her banking career at Arlington Federal in Arlington Heights. She received her post high school education at McHenry County College and Harper College. Throughout her career, Kathy was very active in community and charitable organizations. She was the former chairman (1997-1998) and board member (1995-2003) with the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce. While a board member, she also served as chairman of the McHenry Fiesta Days, the Fiesta Days Parade, and was active with numerous McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce Committees and events. She was recognized for her community work as the recipient of the 2005 McHenry Area Chamber Frank E. Low Award. Kathy was also a board member and board chairman of the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, and was recognized for her contributions as the recipient of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Impact Award in 2006. A member and past-president of the McHenry Rotary, Kathy was the recipient of the Rotary Club Presidents Award for 2012-2013. She served on several Rotary Committees and was Chairman and Co-Founder of the Rotary Blues Brews and Barbecues event. Other civic contributions included serving as a board member of the McHenry County Workforce Investment Board and as a board member on the McHenry County Community Foundation. Other board positions held included Senior Services, Family Services, and Adult and Child Rehab. She served as the keynote speaker for the American Cancer Society in 2010, and for several years, she served on the United Way Allocation Panel. Kathy was diagnosed with cancer in 2005, and despite a 10 year battle with the disease, Kathy remained determined and committed in her resolve to fight her illness and continue with a passion for life. Family was very important to her, and she dearly loved being a grandmother. In quiet times, she loved the companionship of her dog and best friend, Riley. She is survived by her husband of nearly 40 years, Richard; two children, Katherine May of Milwaukee and Michael (Carley) Pelz of Plano; six grandchildren, William, Scarlett, Nathaniel, Ashton, Brianna, and Claire; her mother, Anna Schneider; her brother, Roland (Alison) Schneider; and four sisters, Rita (Richard) Smith, Vickie (Michael) Karcz, Loretta (Dave) Parker, and Shirley (Bruce) Kraft. She was preceded in death by her father. Friends may visit with her family from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2015, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry IL 60050. A celebration of life service will be at 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
