Noreen L. Simonsen Noreen L. Simonsen, nee Raia, age 71, of Elgin, IL and Palm City, FL; beloved wife for 44 years of Dale Simonsen; mother of Scot Simonsen (Meghan); proud grandmother of Jake, Lucas, and Ava Simonsen; Sister of Bruce Raia (Karen); cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Noreen was raised by her parents, Anthony and Bette Raia, in Hillside, IL. She attended Nazareth High School in LaGrange, and graduated from Loyola of Chicago where she cheered the Loyola Ramblers to the 1963 NCAA Basketball Championship. Noreen taught grade school for three years and then worked for TWA for 10 years. She was an avid golfer, spending many weekends on the golf course with her husband, son, and friends. Funeral, Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 9:30 AM from Russo's Hillside Chapels, 4500 Roosevelt Road (between Mannheim and Wolf Rd), Hillside, IL 60162 to St. Domitilla Catholic Church, 4940 Washington St., Hillside, IL 60162. Herbert Claussen Snider Born: Dec. 5, 1928; in Chicago Died: April 7, 2014; in Crystal Lake Herbert Claussen Snider, age 85, passed away April 7, 2014 in Crystal Lake at home. He was born December 5, 1928, in Chicago, IL. Born to Frederick and Stella (Claussen) Snider, he attended Morgan Park Military Academy, graduated from Iowa State University, and served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. Met Blanche Cravener on a blind date on New Year's Eve in 1949, married on July 4, 1953. They raised their family in Hickory Hills, Oak Lawn, and Hoffman Estates, before settling in Crystal Lake, IL. Herb is survived by his wife of 60 years, Blanche; five children, Steve (Mary), Don (Michelle), Jim, Scott (Deb), and Sheri (Tony); twelve grandchildren, Rachel, Richard, Christina, Don Jr., Laura, Matthew, Kelly, Keith, Jamie, Alyssa, Andrew, and Sarah; six great grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, Emma, Liam, Andrew, and Lauryn. He maintained a very close relationship with his surviving older brother Frederick (Ann) through weekly phone calls over decades. Herb was an active, faithful servant of his Lord & Savior; lived & loved to serve his family, friends, and Jesus; loved fellowship with church members; volunteered his time to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry and his church for over 20 years. His gentle demeanor, unconditional love, and an ever present smile made an impression on all who knew him. He loved his pets, the Cubs, da Bears, military history, and genealogy (especially his ties to the Claussen Pickle family). He instilled in his family a love of storytelling. A Memorial Service will be held at Hope Covenant Church, 451 Ackman Road, Crystal Lake, IL 60014, (815) 455-6340 at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 26. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry, P.O. Box 1071, Crystal Lake, IL, 60039 or the Memorial Fund at Hope Covenant Church. Ann Theresa Valentine Born: May 22, 1936; in Chicago, IL Died: April 1, 2014; in Prescott, AZ. Ann Theresa Valentine, 77, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at her home in Prescott, AZ. She was born May 22, 1936, in Chicago, Il; the daughter of George "Bud" Valentine and Evelyn (Kalck) Bjerke. Ann was a loving mother, who took considerable pride in her three children and six grandchildren. Spending time with her family and pets brought her great joy. She also enjoyed travel, genealogy, old movies, jazz, collecting dolls, creating jewelry, sculpting and painting. To many in her family, she was also known as "Sis." She will be greatly missed by all. Ann is survived by her children; Cynthia (Michael) Moore, Victoria (Mark) Carr, and Michael Valentine; grandchildren; Emily, Alexandra, Nicholas, Jared, Justin, and Michaela; siblings; John (Judy) Bjerke, Karen (Peter) Altmann and Kay Todd (Christopher Hippensteel); and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; George and Evelyn, her brother Robert (Joyce) Bjerke and her sister Kathryn (Irving) Kroll. The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to Ann's primary caregiver this last year, Becky Comeaux and a special thank you to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Good Samaritan Hospice. "Those we have held in our arms for a little while, we hold in our hearts forever." Jacob "Jake" Henry Vinyard Born: April 1, 1995; in Downers Grove Died: April 8, 2014 Jacob "Jake" Henry Vinyard, age 19, of Spring Grove, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Jake was born April 1, 1995, in Downers Grove to Randall E. and Kelly (Hart) Vinyard. Jake attended Spring Grove Elementary School and Nippersink Middle School, where he was a percussionist in the school band. Jake was active in RBBA baseball, Stateline Comets Football and the Jr. Rockets Basketball programs. Jake graduated from Richmond Burton Community High School in 2013. While in high school, he played for the Rockets Baseball, Basketball and Football programs. Jake was awarded Most Improved Player for the Rockets baseball team in his senior year. Jake loved music, and was the drummer in the band Final Call, with Dean Palya and Bobby Liston. Jake was employed by Miah Construction, Inc. in Crystal Lake. He also was a cook at the Grand Old Mill restaurant in Wonder Lake. Jake was planning to attend culinary school at Johnson & Wales University in Denver, CO in the fall of 2014. Survivors include his parents, Randy and Kelly (Hart) Vinyard of Spring Grove; three sisters, Kaitlyn, Mikayla and Haley; maternal grandparents, William & Bobbie Hart and paternal grandparents, Ronald & Marianne Vinyard; and aunts & uncles, Gregory (Chari) Hart, Trevor (Keeley) Hart, Ron (Sue) Vinyard, Dawn (Ron) Signore, and Michele (the late Benjamin, CPD) Vinyard-Perez. Jake also leaves behind many cousins and friends. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. Visitation will resume Tuesday, April 15, from 11:00 am until noon, The funeral service will be at noon Tuesday, April 15 in the funeral home. Interment will be in Millburn Cemetery. Following the burial services, everyone is welcome to join a Celebration of Jake's Life at The Shores of Turtle Creek in Spring Grove IL, 7908 Winn Road, Spring Grove, IL, 60081 from 4:00 to 9:00 pm on Tuesday, April 15th.
