Evans Demos Archos

LAKEWOOD – Evans Demos Archos, 74, of Lakewood, passed away Monday, Aug. 9, 2010.
He was born in 1935 in Valtetsi, Arcadia, Greece, to the late Demos and Aggeliki Eikosipentarchos. Sponsored by his uncle, Nick Cocalas, he immigrated to the U.S. from Greece in 1955 to live his American dream. In 1958, he opened his first restaurant, The John Evans Restaurant, in Evanston, with his partners, his brother, Dean D. Archos, and his cousin, John C. Cocalas. A few years later, he saw an opportunity in the then-small community of Crystal Lake to open the John Evans Inn Restaurant and Banquet Facility with his partner, his brother, John D. Archos, and his wife, Demetra E. Archos. The John Evans Inn distinguished itself by becoming the premiere dining venue in the northwest suburbs for decades. In 2001, the restaurant closed its doors after serving the community for over three decades and was renovated and leased to Walgreens.
He passionately served his community on both business and community boards. He was past president and member of The Valtetsion Society, a 30-plus year member of the Lions, Mason and Shriners Clubs, and past president and member of the McHenry County Chapter of the Restaurant Association of Illinois. He established the Crystal Lake Shop With A Cop charity program, helping disadvantage children in his community. He was a co-founding member of Saint Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church of Palatine, and Saint Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church of Elgin. He loved most playing golf, traveling extensively and entertaining friends and family in his homes in Greece, Bonita Springs, Fla., and Lakewood.
His charm, wit, smile and the sparkle in his eyes never will be forgotten.
He was married for 42 years to his loving wife, Demetra E. Archos. He is survived by his two daughters, Angelique (Hicham) Archos-Solhi and Valerie (Ludwig) Archos-Beutel; his siblings, Dean (Paula) Archos, Maria (the late Panos) Bourlokas, Lee (Eugenia) Archos, Georgia (the late Andreas) Giannakopolous, and John (Helen) Archos; his brothers-in-law, Athansios (Ekaterina) Mitrakos, Kostas (Anda) Mitrakos; his sisters-in-law, Panagoula E. and Panagoula A. Mitrakos; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Evangelos Mitrakos and Andreas Mitrakos.
