George Jay Somerville

HARVARD – George Jay Somerville, 77, of Harvard, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at his home, with family members and his dog, Buster, at his side.
He was born Aug. 18, 1935, in Chasley, N.D., to Arthur and Lydia (Wagner) Somerville.
He graduated from Carrington High School and in 1956 married Adrienne Marie Torscher at St. Catherine's Church in Dundee. They resided in Illinois, North Dakota and Minnesota, raising nine children. Adrienne died June 17, 1979.
He worked hard his whole life and was considered a "jack-of-all-trades."
He enjoyed dancing, bowling, fishing, gardening, cooking and camping. He also served in the National Guard and was a member of the Woodstock Moose Lodge and Knights of Columbus.
His favorite pastime was spending time with his family. He also enjoyed coaching his sons in Harvard Little League Baseball. In 1989, George married Patricia Ann Church in Woodstock. In their retirement, they enjoyed gardening and traveling in their RV to several states over a period of years.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Ann Somerville; his eight children, Ken (Sherryl) Somerville, Cathleen (Phil) Fleming, Dave Somerville, Diana (Brent) Lilja, Laurie Somerville, Tim (Yvette) Somerville, Steve (Michele) Somerville and Corinne (Rick) Protz; two stepsons, William Church and Richard (Wendyi)Tucker; 32 grandchildren, Charissa, Dan, Cassandra, Candace, Josh, Nick, Cody, Tim, Curtis, Melissa, Samantha, Anthony, Matthew, Aaron, Michael, Mackenzie, Nathaniel, Mason, McCabe, Marrick, Adrienne, Max, Marcus, George, Malyren, Makenna, Mandy, Nichole, Jennifer, Randy, Ashlyi and Oryi; 12 great-grandchildren, Ariel, Isabelle, Tyller, Reymond, Brooke, Camren, Anna, Tessa, Diego, Marcus, Athan, and Mia; and six siblings, Elaine Somerville, Janice (Eldon) Conley, Darlene (Don) Fults, James Somerville, Amelia (Donnie) Thomas, and Chuck (Alice) Somerville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Adrienne Somerville; daughter, Jennifer Somerville; brother, Kenneth Somerville; and sisters, Rose Marie Somerville and Virginia Strege.
There will be rosary service at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, followed by a visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, in the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Harvard.
