Mary Frances Arnold

McHENRY – Mary Frances Arnold, 89, of McHenry, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at Crystal Pines Health Care Center in Crystal Lake.
She was born December 7, 1923, in Chicago, to John W. and Mary Esther (Weekley) Downes.
On May 25, 1951, she married Thomas Arnold in Chicago.
An avid Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame fan, she enjoyed gardening and cooking and was well-known for her Irish soda bread. She had provided day care in her home for many years.
She came from a family of Chicago Police Officers and was extremely proud of all of her brothers.
An active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of McHenry, the most important part of her life was her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Pamela (Robert) Johnson of Mesa, Ariz., Patrick (Hollis) Arnold of Johnsburg, Kathleen (Michael) Justen of Ringwood and Thomas (Mary Lou) Arnold of McHenry; grandchildren, Robert (Mimi) Johnson, Michael (Amy) Johnson, John (Julee) Johnson, Kristin Johnson, Patrick (Heather) Arnold, Jack (Sara) Arnold, Erin (Jeff) Lesniak, Bernadette Arnold, Jacob (Ashten) Justen, Kevin Justen, Benjamin Justen, Tyler Justen, Bobbie Mebius and Micayla Arnold; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Julianna Schnoor of Chicago; brothers, Raymond (Esther) Downes of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Edward (Nancy) Downes of Clearwater, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two grandchildren, Bridgette Arnold and Troy Kozbiel; two brothers, John (Lorraine) and Leonard Downes; sisters, Esther Josephine (Max) Mallamad, Margaret "Peggy" (William) Wolfe, Patricia (Robert) Nemes and Kathleen Musker Stevens; brother-in-law, Raymond Schnoor; one niece; and three nephews.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry.
Visitation will continue at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the prayers are said at 10:20 a.m. leaving for the funeral. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 W. Church, Johnsburg.
Interment will be in St. Patrick Countryside Cemetery in McHenry.
