McHENRY – Neva Imogene Mass, 103, of McHenry, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore.
She was born June 15, 1909, in Elgin, to Zern and Mabel (Heldt) Lusted.
Neva moved from Elgin to Algonquin in the 1960s and then to McCullom Lake for many years. She was a clerical worker at Hills Nursery in Dundee and later worked with her husband as a corporate officer for Mass Construction, previously of Algonquin, now in McHenry.
Neva raised and showed quarter horses, several of which were national champions. She was a Girl Scout leader, member of St. Patrick Church, St. Pat's Ladies Guild and McHenry's American Legion Auxiliary Unit 491. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her three children, Edward (Wanda) Mass of McCullom Lake, Anita McMahon of Carpentersville, Melinda Mass of Crossville, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Mass, in 1987; her parents; two sisters, Betty and Virginia; a brother, Zern Lusted; and a son-in-law, Daniel McMahon.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, and will continue from 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the funeral home until 9:20 a.m., proceeding to a 10 a.m. funeral Mass celebration at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 3500 W. Washington St., McHenry.
Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, in St. John Nepomucene Cemetery, Fox River Grove.
