WOODSTOCK – Selma "Sally" Augusta Wilhelmina O'Brien (Kunde), 83, died peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, Woodstock Inpatient Unit.
She was born July 30, 1926, in Marengo, to Herman and Elsie (Sawallisch) Kunde. On Jan. 10, 1948, she married Russell Eugene O'Brien.
She was an extremely faithful Catholic and impressed those values upon her family.
She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marengo. She loved giving kisses with her red lipstick and making popcorn. She loved farming and living on the river, which she said was like living in heaven.
What she loved most of all was spending time with her loving husband of 62 years, her daughters, her grandchildren, her great-grandson, her nieces, her nephews, other family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Russell; two children, Sally (Lonnie) Millermon and Jacqueline Zenk; five grandchildren, Dean Millermon, Melissa Millermon, Sarah (John) Isaacson, Sharon Zenk and Sheila (Steven) Gibbons; her great-grandchild, John Russell Isaacson; two sisters, Virginia "Susie" Polnow and Marilyn Grever; and her brother, Herman "Peter" Kunde Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Evelyn Dennison and Adeline Meyer; and her brothers, Howard Kunde and Harold Kunde.
The visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Highway, Marengo. Prayers will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the funeral home, before going to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 10:30 a.m. Mass celebration. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Marengo.
