MARENGO – Jim Archer, 77, of Marengo, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at his home.
He was born June 8, 1934, in Harvey, to Stanley A. Archer and Gertrude (Hackenbroch) Archer. On Dec. 2, 1961, he married Melodie L. Trost, in Marengo.
He graduated from Purdue University
in 1957, and shared ownership of Marengo Steel Products Inc. for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, following all types of sports, dancing, swimming, gardening and collecting antiques.
He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Beth Archer; two stepchildren, Marleen Gibson and Wayne (Theresa) Zierer; a step-granddaughter, Jasmine Gibson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; his parents; two sisters; and an infant brother.
The visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Zion Lutheran Church, 408 Jackson St., Marengo. The visitation will continue at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral Monday, Aug. 29, at the church. Interment will be in Marengo City Cemetery.
