Stanley Lester Alm, age 82, of McHenry passed away on September 15, 2016 at Crystal Pines in Crystal Lake surrounded by his loving family.
Stanley was born in Chicago on August 29, 1934 to Harold and Evelyn (Smith) Alm. He married Arlys Ann Bouchard on June 1, 1957 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Crystal Lake.
Stanley was a lifelong resident of McHenry, a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McHenry, a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus as well as American Legion member. After 38 years with Commonwealth Edison Stanley retired to Naples FL where he was a member of Glades Country Club. Stanley was a diehard Cubs fan.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Arlys; his children, Jeffery (Luann) Alm of Vernon Hills, Linda (Curt) Larsen of Johnsburg and Christopher (Vanessa) Alm of McHenry; his grandchildren, Nick, Matthew, Troy, Carly, Kelly, Jason, and Olivia.
He was preceded in death by his two sons, Michael and Steven Alm; his parents and his brother, Roy.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home and Crematory 591 Ridgeview Dr. McHenry IL. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 9:00am to 10:15am. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McHenry, IL. Interment will follow the Mass.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations in Stanley's name are directed to American Cancer Society C/O Janet Smith 200 South Green St. McHenry IL 60050 or United Leukodystrophy Foundation, Inc. 224 N 2nd St #2, DeKalb, IL 60115.

Reade and I are ever so sorry for your loss, Arlys. You have been such good friends of my mom and dad for years. No visit to Florida was ever complete without dinner with the Alms. Stan often joked about just moving his bed in. The heavens are smiling as the four-some is now complete in that great golf course in the sky. Stan will be greatly missed by this Luther girl, and will remain in my heart forever. God bless you, Arlys, and your family. May God's peace and mercy bring you all great comfort in the memories and love of Stan.

Our thoughts are with Arlys and her family on their loss. Harlan has many fond memories working with Stan, playing golf with him and even a hearty game of May-I? with Heather, Stan, Arlys and Dick & Virginia in Naples in the winter months. Stan was always so laid back, easy going and one of the best ComEd Dispatchers ever. Rest in peace old friend.
