Martha Vallejo Obituary

CRYSTAL LAKE – Martha A. Vallejo, of Crystal Lake, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at the Inpatient Unit of Hospice of Northeastern Illinois in Woodstock.

She was born in Riobamba, Ecuador, to the late Angel and Elvira (Vallejo) Pozo. She married George Vallejo on Aug. 12, 1968, in Newark, N.J.

She loved practical jokes, traveling, gardening, and especially hosting, entertaining, and cooking. She had a great knack for remembering the birthdays and anniversaries of her friends and family and for keeping her family and friends close. She was very generous with putting the needs of her family and friends before her own.

She was a devout Catholic who prayed often and loved God. She especially loved her granddaughters, who were the light of her life.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her son, Raul (Lisa) Viteri of Algonquin; her granddaughters, Lauren and Jessica Viteri; her siblings, Raul (Yolanda) Pozo, Carlos (Mirian) Pozo, Guido (Yolanda) Pozo, Lala (Andrew) Hopta and Rod (Fran) Pozo; and many adored nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Fabiola Rodriguez.

The visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 8, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake.

Transfer prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 9, at the funeral home followed by a procession to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church for the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Crystal Lake Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, www.cholangiocarcinoma.org, or 801-999-0455.

George,
My deepest sympathies to you and your family. I will always remember Martha coming to Communion at the 9:00am Sunday Mass and her deep reverence towards the Body and Blood of Jesus. She will now spend eternity with the Jesus whom she loved while on this earth. God's blessings to you and your family.
