CRYSTAL LAKE – Bruce Allen Johnson, 59, of Crystal Lake, succumbed to brain cancer on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, in Barrington, after a brave three-and-a-half year battle.|
He was born on Dec. 2, 1953, to Delbert and Annabelle Johnson in Viborg, S.D.
Bruce graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in inorganic chemistry in 1976. He then pursued his master's at the University of Minnesota. Bruce worked for the Valspar Corp. for 34 years, most recently as a technical director. During his long tenure with Valspar, he received a number of prestigious awards, as well as being named on several patents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Diane; and his three children, Drew (Natalia), Adam and Tessa Rose. Bruce is also survived by his mother, Annabelle; his brother, Brian; and his sister, Gloria.
He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
The funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 W. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake. There will also be a brief visitation at the church from 6 p.m. until the funeral service.
Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery in Irene, S.D.
