MONMOUTH, Ill. – Jerome "Jerry" J. Lamb, 87, died peacefully at home Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013.|
He was born May 10, 1926, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Frank and Catherine (McDermott) Lamb. He was raised and educated in St. Paul.
Jerry served with the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.
Jerry married Marguerite A. Burggraff in Minneapolis, Minn., on May 15, 1948, having met at the University of Minnesota while both attended under the GI bill. Together they resided in St. Paul; Dubuque, Iowa; Milwaukee, Wis.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Indianapolis; Crystal Lake; and Kirkwood, Mo., before moving to Monmouth.
Jerry was in sales/marketing of packaging systems and materials, and later ingredients such as spices and seasonings to the food industry. He enjoyed all sports, but really loved the game of golf.
He was a member of the American Legion for 65 years, the IFT – International Food Technologist, Toastmasters International and Barbershop Quartets of America. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Dennis (Jackie) Lamb of Cary, Patricia Lamb-Neidig of Tucson, Ariz., and Martha (Sid) Smith of Monmouth; grandchildren, Kelly (Greg) Gilmore of Springfield, Ill., Sam Lamb of Minneapolis, and Kris Neidig of Tucson; and great-grandchildren, Marguerite Gilmore, Paul Gilmore and Adeline Gilmore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Joanne and Rosemary.
Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be planned at a later date. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Prairie, Minn., at a later date.
