MOUNT PROSPECT – Phyllis I. Rossbach (nee Ehrke), 91, of Mount Prospect, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013, in Park Ridge.|
She was born Oct. 11, 1921, in Twin Lakes, Wis.
Phyllis spent her early years on a farm near Richmond. While growing up, Phyllis and her twin sister each had a pet lamb.
This early association with animals led her to a love of all creatures. Thanks to this love and tolerance, her home always had a dog or cat supplemented at various times, courtesy of the children, with birds recovering from injuries, rabbits, snakes, a chipmunk and other assorted critters.
She graduated from Richmond-Burton High School and attended Northwestern University. She then lived in Crystal Lake with her twin sister, Doris, and their mother, Viletta Ehrke.
Phyllis became a life insurance claims examiner for North American Company For Life and Health Insurance, where she met Bernard, a fellow employee, whom she married on June 15, 1957.
After time off to raise the family, she returned to insurance, employed in the underwriting department of Federal Life Insurance Company.
While her daughters were attending Euclid School, Phyllis was an active Girl Scout leader. Each spring, she enjoyed planning, obtaining flowers and planting her much admired flower gardens.
She took great joy in written correspondence with her many friends and relatives, especially cousins, nieces and great-nieces. Every birthday, holiday or time of illness was remembered by a card and note.
Phyllis loved traveling, especially to see and explore scenic and historic sites.
She also enjoyed reading. Biographies of notable persons, history and St. Anthony Messenger were among her favorite publications.
TV was an important daily activity with Jeopardy and British programs like Inspector Morse on the must watch list. Phyllis liked to follow the Chicago professional sports teams on TV.
In addition to being a loving wife and partner, Phyllis was very devoted to her children and grandchildren.
She was the beloved wife of Bernard A.; loving mother of John (Dawn), Anne (Gary) LeBouton and Mary (Daryl) Emery; dear grandmother of Elizabeth (Joe) Bush, Michael Rossbach and Amy Emery; fond sister of the late Albert and Howard Ehrke, Mary Lou Johnson and her identical twin, Doris Leininger.
