Alvera Jean Reed

Died: June 9, 2018

Alvera Jean Reed, 89, of Woodstock, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 9, 1928 in Woodstock to Edward and Mildred (Dibler) Nickels. She married John O. Reed on May 6, 1948 in McHenry.

Jean was a member of St. Mary Church in Woodstock and a 1946 graduate of McHenry High School. She was a charter member of the Genealogy Society of McHenry County; and a member of the McHenry County Historical Society. She loved to travel, and had been a member of the Woodstock Woodchucks, and the Rainbow Chasers Camping Club. Jean had worked for the McHenry County Recorders Office on the Woodstock Square before starting her family. She later returned to the new court house after the passing of her husband. She will also be remembered as a Den Mother with Cub Scout Pack 363. Most of all, Jean cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Rebecca) Reed, Woodstock, William Reed, Woodstock, David (Darla) Reed, Colfax, N.C., Margaret "Peggie" (John) Byard, Woodstock, Mary (Michael) Hoyt, Woodstock; a daughter in law, Teresa Reed; grandchildren, Ashley Reed, Thomas (Janne ) Reed, Brian (Elizabeth) Reed, Monet (Quinn) Muphy, Monique (Jim) Ryan, Rico (Shanell) Reed, Gregory (Jennifer) Byard, Daniel Reed, Grace Reed, Cameron (Emily) Cross, Courtney Cross, Catherine Cross, Christian Cross, Madison Fain, McKenzie Fain, Michael (Amanda) Witbrod, Anthony (Sarah) Witbrod, Brian (Kristin) Witbrod; 27 great grandchildren; and a cousin, Marilyn Leigh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1986; a son, Michael Reed; and a sister, Marie Nickels; and two daughters in law, Rachael and Dorothy "Duffy" Reed.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Schneider Leucht Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Avenue, Woodstock. The visitation will continue on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Lincoln Avenue Woodstock from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am Mass. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Woodstock.

Memorials may be made to either Woodstock Fire and Rescue or St. Mary Church.
