MARENGO – Carol Grace Carter was born Jan. 4, 1941, and died peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at her home in Marengo after battling a long illness. Carol was surrounded by her family as she entered God's kingdom.|
Carol was born in Detroit, where 19 years later she met and married Gary Lynn Carter of Mount Clemens, Mich. Gary and Carol were married on June 25, 1960. The couple has three children, Brian (Holly) Carter of Elgin, Wendy (Mary Beth) Carter-Siddons of McHenry and Kevin J. Carter of Rockford.
After getting married in 1960, Gary and Carol lived in Mount Clemens, Mich., and in 1977 moved to Crystal Lake where they lived for eight years until moving to Blackfoot, Idaho. While living in Crystal Lake, Carol was an active "band mom" for the Crystal Lake Heraldry Guard, worked for Crystal Lake school districts 47 and 155 as a bus driver and also drove for Dial A Ride/ PACE for many years. In 1985, Carol and Gary moved to Idaho where they spent 18 years in what they would call "paradise," after which they retired to Yuma, Ariz. In Yuma, Carol was very active in her retirement community, and in 2010 Carol and Gary moved back to Illinois to be closer to their children.
Carol loved the simple things in life: bingo, billiards, clogging, word searches and dollar stores. She always was able to find the good in every situation, but nothing was more important to her then her husband of 53 years, Gary, and her children and family.
There will be a memorial service from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Colonial Funeral Home, McHenry. For information, call the funeral home at 815-385-0063.
