Daniel Meriwether Obituary

CRYSTAL LAKE – Daniel Lee Meriwether, 65, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 31, 2011, from pancreatic cancer surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept. 4, 1945, in Galesburg, to Helen Edwards and Neil Meriwether. He married Anita Johanson on Oct. 24, 1970, in Galesburg.
His hobbies included golf, fishing, landscaping, any financial project, and do-it-yourself home repair projects. He enjoyed studying languages, reading, traveling, and rooting loudly for the New York Yankees to win. He will be remembered and treasured for his wit and sense of humor, generous nature and outgoing personality.
He graduated with an MBA from Northern Illinois University and retired from finance and business dealer development with Clark Equipment, Volvo-White GMC, and Nissan Forklift Corp. NA.
A veteran of the Army, he was a sergeant honored with a Purple Heart and decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 DVC. He held a Combat Infantryman's Badge and three Expert Infantry Badges including Marksmanship.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Anita; his daughter, Jennifer; his son, Brent; and four siblings and their families.
A memorial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, at Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Teri Peterson will officiate.
