WOODSTOCK – Delores May Swanson, 53, of Woodstock, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at her home in Woodstock surrounded by her family.|
She was born in Elgin on Feb. 4, 1960, to Alan and Gladys (Henrys) Swanson.
Delores was raised on a local dairy farm where her values, hard-working attitude and love of family were instilled in her. Delores was a teacher for Alden-Hebron School District 19 for over 28 years. She held a master's degrees in administration as well as reading. She loved working with students, parents, teachers and staff at Alden-Hebron District 19. She was very dedicated and talented at her job. She was a very caring, giving and supportive person who was always willing to take on any challenge. Delores was always involved in anything that would benefit children and enrich their lives.
Her loving family and dearest friends were most important to her. She loved spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She always provided guidance and support to family and students, and she attended many of their events no matter what activity they were involved in. Along with her generous nature, she would provide assistance and lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Donna Douglas, Diane (Joseph) Hellyer, Donald Swanson, Debbie (Steve) Ehlenburg and Dale (Lori) Swanson; her nieces and nephews, William (Kelly), Andrea, John and Patrick Douglas, Christopher Hellyer, Tiffany (James) Ryan, Danielle, Stephanie, Jennifer and Adam Swanson, Michael (Holly), Katie and Robert Ehlenburg and Hunter and Madelynn Swanson; her great-nieces and nephews, Nathan and Natalie Douglas, Biacana Stephany, Tyler Douglas, Jacob Stewart, Emma and Blake Douglas, Joshua Douglas, Connor, Hailey and Zachary Ryan and Christopher Savalick.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Henry and Eleanor Henrys and Ernest and Edith Swanson; and a brother-in-law, William Douglas.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, at the Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock. The visitation will continue from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at the funeral home, followed by burial in McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery. A celebration of life will be at 11:30 a.m. at the Ridgefield – Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church, 8505 Church St., Crystal Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family for the Delores Swanson Foundation to be designated in support of educational programs within the school and church community.
