Elaine Oslakovic Obituary
Elaine Oslakovic

Born: October 21, 1943; in Ditchingham, England

Died: July 31, 2018; Barrington, IL

Elaine Oslakovic, age 74, of Wonder Lake, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at JourneyCare, Barrington, with her loving husband at her side.

She was born October 21, 1943 in Ditchingham, England to Gerald and Grace (Underwood) Munday. Elaine emigrated to America, arriving in Chicago just before new year's day 1967. On June 16, 1967, she married Charles (Chuck) Oslakovic, a still unfinished project she would continue to work on for the next 51 years.

She is survived by Chuck, her loving husband of 51 years; sister, Gillian (Alex) McLennan, of Bedford England and their children and grandchildren; niece, Cathy (Doug) Ciota, of Willow Springs, IL and their children, Gia, Savannah and Michael; and many cousins on both sides of the Atlantic.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Elaine took her formal education in England and her early jobs in Cambridgeshire were for lawyers, solicitors, and the chief constable of the Cambridge police department. She arrived in America as a top secretary or executive assistant and worked at various law firms and law-related groups. She took "early retirement" upon moving to rural Wonder Lake in the late 70's. Those who knew Elaine would agree that she was a person who knew what she wanted and had the drive and ingenuity to achieve it. It was her vision which produced the design (and also the building) of our McHenry County home. She took up golfing with her friends and never got particularly good at it, but really excelled at lunch and gossip in the Cubby Hole Cafe after the golfing was out of the way. She began quilting from a standing start and ultimately produced some prize winning work. Her father imbued her with the love of gardening; she planned and executed a number of attractive gardens. She loved to travel, to see places both old and new; she was particularly fond of the English countryside, but also loved the sound of the ocean lapping at the beach on the Big Island. She read libraries full of books, and was always inquisitive. She loved her dogs and also her cats, and even her dog Dingo who thought he was part cat. She was instrumental in forming and hosting the Mermaids swim team. She was also the newsletter editor for the Village of Barnard Mill during its brief existence, and made many friends and a few enemies in the process. She was a good and loyal friend to many. She lived life hard and left her mark; she will be missed. Her family will be forever grateful for the wonderful care she received at Northwestern Memorial Hospital during her 5 year illness, and the compassion and care received at JourneyCare at the end.

Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, August 10, 2018, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry. Memorial Service will take place on Sunday, August 12, 2018, beginning at noon at Grace Lutheran Church, 6000 Broadway Road, Richmond. Inurnment will be private at Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Elaine's name may be made to JourneyCare Hospice, 405 Lake Zurich Road, Barrington, IL 60010.
