Ellen Jane (Meinhardt) Amann, 77, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 15, at JourneyCare Hospice in Woodstock, IL. She died surrounded by her family.

She will be sorely missed by George Amann, her devoted husband of 56 years, and by her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. She is survived by her beloved brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marie Meinhardt; and her loving niece, Samantha Meinhardt. She is also survived by her children, Lori Amann-Chetcuti and husband, Steven Chetcuti, Kenneth Amann and wife, Sondra Amann, Lisa Bird and husband, Jeffrey Bird, and Robert Amann. Ellen's legacy of love will live on through her grandchildren, Larisa, Kathryn, and Juliana Chetcuti; Sarah, David, Kevin, and Kira Amann; and Andrew and Sean Bird.

Ellen was born on May 8, 1941 in Jamaica, NY to Otto Meinhardt and Phyllis (Rittmuller) Meinhardt. She married George in March of 1962 at Our Lady of Poland Catholic Church in Southampton, NY. She was a loving wife and mother who loved gardening, crafting, reading and cooking. She was a devoted parishioner of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Crystal Lake and volunteered at Little Christopher's Thrift Shop. She was a fierce advocate for her son, Robert, and for others with developmental disabilities and volunteered with Friends of Shapiro Developmental Center (nee KAMR) for several years.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00pm Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Davenport Family Funeral Home on 419 East Terra Cotta Avenue, Crystal Lake, IL. The funeral service will take place at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church in Crystal Lake at 10:00am on Monday, May 21. Interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Friends of Shapiro Developmental Center c/o Davenport Family Funeral Home.
