FOX RIVER GROVE – Joan A. Greenwood (nee Gaulke), of Fox River Grove, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013, at her home in Fox River Grove.|
Joan "Cissie" Greenwood was born May 27, 1934, in Barrington, to Ralph and Ella (nee Altenburg) Gaulke.
She fought a long, extremely courageous battle with cancer. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved going to her grandson's baseball and soccer games and spending time with him. She was a Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks fan. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ. She took very good care of her family and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Joan is survived by her husband, Charles, whom she married Aug. 27, 1953, in Palatine; her children, Penny (Ralph) Schleich, Nick Greenwood and Julie (Emery) Cole; grandson, Sean Cole; her two brothers, Ralph and Peter Gaulke; her three sisters, Donna (Paul) Wilson, Carol (Al) Gordon and Judy (Gene) Randle; and her sisters-in-law, Marion Gaulke, Shirley Nelson, Betty (Jim) Hauser and Judy Greenwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Robert Gaulke, Roland (Kay) Gaulke and Richard Gaulke; her sister, Mary (Merle) Schumacher; her brothers-in-law, John Greenwood and Don Nelson; and sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Gaulke, Dolores Gaulke and Jeanne (John) Stanke.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 401 E. Main St., Barrington.
Burial will be private.
