Joanne T. Stanek Obituary
SPRING GROVE – Joanne T. Stanek, 83, of Spring Grove, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Wauconda Healthcare and Rehab Center.
She was born May 20, 1930, in Woodstock, the daughter of the late Robert and Edna (Phalin) Knox. Joanne lived her childhood on the family farm on Green Street in McHenry. Her grade school years were at the Prairie School and St. Mary's Catholic School, and then graduating from McHenry High School in 1948.
Joanne loved the outdoors and was an avid cross country skier and bike rider. She also gardened and canned her own produce for many years. She was a devoted member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, St. Peter's Christian Mother's Society, Richmond Grade School PTO and room mother.
She loved to travel, especially to Fatima, Portugal and Medjugorje. On Oct. 13, 1956, she married Wencil M. Stanek at St. Patrick's in McHenry. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children, Steve (Alicia) Stanek of Spring Grove, Diane (Frank) Dowell of Spring Grove, Don (Linda) Stanek of Richmond, Larry (Kimberly) Stanek of Spring Grove, Michael (Andrea) Stanek of Twin Lakes, Wis., and David (V. Michelle) Stanek of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sisters, Helen Busch of Spring Grove, Julia (Glenn) Huska of McHenry, Lucille Harris of Norfolk, Va., and Eileen (Ronald) Mauer of McHenry; brother, Kevin Knox of Peosta, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joanne was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Tommy Dowell and Stephanie Stanek; and five siblings, Mary Rossi, Kathleen Knox, Robert Knox, Howard Knox and John Knox.
Prayers will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry, proceeding for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 2118 Main St., Spring Grove. The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 22, at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.
