Died: March 8, 2018; in Woodstock, IL

John Stanley Blaine, 76, of Woodstock, died peacefully at his home on March 8, 2018.

John is survived by his son, Brad; and grandchildren, Brittany, Alex, and Lycan.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lucille & Curtis; daughter, Michelle; and sister, Linda.

John was born on December 20, 1941, in Oak Park, IL. He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1959. He attended both Lincoln College & Culver Stockton College. In 1963, John enlisted in the U.S Navy and specialized as a Radarman. During his service, he traveled the world and most notably, was part of a mission to restore peace and stability during the 1965 civil war of the Dominican Republic. He was honorably discharged in 1967, as Petty Officer Third Class. After returning home, John began working for UPS and remained a dedicated employee for 29 years. John was a devout father, set on instilling core values of responsibility & hard work. He is remembered as the backbone of his family, one who encouraged everyone to be better than they could ever imagine for themselves.

John was an accomplished outdoorsman, skilled at hunting pheasants and fishing. He participated in numerous fishing competitions and Canadian outpost adventures with his father and son. He was an avid reader of world history and passionate about movies and muscle cars. He was a member of the U.S.S. Perry reunion organization & VFW. Upon retirement, he enjoyed nothing more than long sunny afternoons, sitting outside with his best friend George.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service at the Schneider Leucht Merwin Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Avenue Woodstock. Interment will follow in the McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery in Woodstock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (nmcrs.org) would be appreciated. The family would like to thank JourneyCare for their efforts & dedication.
