DES PLAINES – Kelly A. Doty, 54, of Des Plaines, formerly of Hampshire, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with her family by her side.|
She was born March 22, 1958, in Elgin, the daughter of Ralph "Rusty" and Theresa "Tea" (Seyller) Doty. Kelly was the valedictorian of the 1976 graduating class of Hampshire High School. She graduated summa cum laude from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, with her pharmaceutical degree. She also received a degree in elementary education from National Louis University.
Kelly worked for 14 years as a pharmacist with Osco Drugs. She also taught for five years at the Our Lady of Destiny Grade School in Des Plaines.
Kelly lost her vision in 1995 but continued to be active on the National Federation of the Blind of Illinois. She served as state treasurer and was on the board of the Chicago chapter. She helped establish a program for high school students with vision impairment.
Surviving are her mother, Tea Doty, and sister, Kathleen "Sue" Doty, both of Huntley; several aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her dad, Rusty, in 2003.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire, with prayers at 7:30 p.m. The visitation continues from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, when the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee/Huntley Road, Huntley. Father Scott DuVall will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
