Richard Gault Obituary
Richard Gault, Sr. Richard Robert Gault, Sr., passed away peacefully at home on November 7, 2013. He was 90 years old. Born June 12, 1923 in Elgin, Illinois, the youngest of 3 children, his family relocated to Sharon, Wisconsin where he was raised. He spent time daily in their huge garden, giving him his lifelong love of growing fruits and vegetables. Youth activities included many years as an altar boy and Boy Scout; in high school he competed in 4 sports, acted in plays, and worked for his Dad. He graduated from Sharon High School in 1941, and entered the University of Wisconsin at Madison, working part time for "Dr. Silkini 's Magic Show." He briefly played semi-pro baseball, later joining the Navy where he was stationed in San Diego. Upon discharge, he began his 36 year career with Beechnut in San Jose, California. Beginning as an office clerk, he later became a fruit buyer and traveled all over California. It was on one of those trips to Southern California, where he met and married the lovely Millie Taylor. Richard eventually became Manager of California Operations, retiring in 1984. Richard and Mille settled in San Jose, first in Cambrian Park, and then Almaden Valley, making lifelong neighborhood friends in both places. They moved to Napa, California in 2005. Richard was an avid sports fan, worked daily in his garden and yard, loved being with or talking to family who are scattered across 8 states, and enjoyed sharing a glass of wine at the end of the day with Millie. To him, her cooking was unmatched, and was one of his fondest enjoyments. Richard is survived by his wife, Millie Gault of Napa, California; daughters, Jeannie Puhger (Ron) of Napa, California and Sherry Thompson (Dave) of Collierville, Tennessee; sister, Margaret Firestone of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Richard was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Selma Gault; sister, Virginia Reiher; sons, Richard Gault, Jr., Dennis Gault and John Gault. Richard will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
