Robert J. Urban, 78, of Burlington passed away Sunday morning, January 7, 2018 in Joliet, IL.

He was born July 13, 1939 in Chicago the son of George and Anna (Solak) Urban. Bob served in the Navy on the destroyer USS Kenneth D. Bailey as a machinist's mate. He was an expert on boiler systems and served as the building Superintendent for Ackemann's Department Store in Elgin for 18 years. During this time, he served as president of the Illinois Chapter of the National Association of Power Engineers. He had also been employed by Howard Wilke of Hampshire in his concrete business for several years. He retired in 2001 after working for the Kane Co. Forest Preserve for over 10 years. He also enjoyed his part-time job in the produce department at Blocks where he made many area friends.

Bob married Linda (Gray) on Feb. 17, 1979 in Elgin and moved to the Gray-Urban Farm in Burlington Twp. He truly learned to love his life on the farm - especially at harvest time.

Surviving are his wife, Linda; daughter, Kelly Urban of Lake in the Hills, Lori (Calvin) Riegle of Cary; son, Garrett (fianc , C-era Heath) of Muncie, IN; granddaughter, Ashley (Juan) Domingo-Riegle; grandsons, Tristin and Grayson Kenny; great grandchildren, Levi, Anthony, and Javier; brother, Kenneth (Sandra) Urban of Huntley; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Blanche; and a brother, George Joseph Urban, Jr.; granddaughter, Whitney Riegle.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 11:00am at Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St. in Hampshire with Military Honors following. Visitation will be on Friday, Jan. 12 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to either the Hampshire-Burlington Food Pantry or the Robert Urban Memorial, c/o PO Box 445, Hampshire, IL 60140.
