CRYSTAL LAKE – Robert M. Schrempf, 67, of Crystal Lake, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at his home.
He was born Dec. 16, 1944, in Chicago, to Adam and Ruth (Mac-Kenzie) Schrempf. On June 26, 1971, he married Corinne Peters.
He worked for 33 years for the Chicago Public Schools. He spent most of his career at Von Steuben High School and taught and mentored thousands of students. He coached Scholastic Bowl for 12 years and the academic decathlon for six years, bringing the IHSA regional championship to Von Steuben in 2005. This was the first time this was accomplished in a CPS high school.
He also was an avid White Sox fan since the 1950s.
He is survived by his wife, Corinne; his children, Eugene (Sarah), David (Kelly), Yvonne (David) Piarowski, Robert and Joanne (Jim) Rich; his grandchildren, Alex, Kara and Anya; his brother, Adam Schrempf; and his sister, Margaret Schrempf.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Interment will be in Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
