Shirley H. Bockman was born on July 7, 1928 to James E. and Loretta (Deneen) Higgins, and raised on the family farm in Marengo, Township. She married Carl Bockman, who preceded her in death on June 5, 2012, in the rectory of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marengo. She worked several years as secretary to the county farm adviser before staying home to raise her family; returning to the work force at the county mental health agency for many years.

She is survived by, Son, Paul (Belinda) Bockman of Marengo. Children, John (Petra) Bockman and Mary (Lance) Price, all of Huntsville, Alabama. Daughter, Gayle (the late Stephen) Shellenberg of Columbia, South Carolina. Children, J.J. (Jill) Shellenberg of Columbia, South Carolina, Katie (John) Pavlik of Holly Springs, North Carolina, and Maggie (Glenn) Motley of Elgin, South Carolina. Daughter, Leah (Scott) Smith of Cary, Illinois. Children, Cameron Helmer (Jeanna Sorgani) of Charleston, South Carolina, Taryn Helmer (Sam Kay) and Tyler Smith, all of Cary, Illinois. Great Grandchildren, Sophia and Olivia Bockman, Avery and Stephen Shellenberg, Madelynn and Maddox Price, John David and Baby Pavlik (due January 2019). Brother, Robert (Joann) Higgins of Marengo, Illinois. Sister-in-law, Sandra Higgins of Florida. Former Daughter-in-Law, Cindee Bockman of Huntsville, Alabama; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Eileen Barnes, Helen Swanson, Lillian Bright, Jean Persinger; brothers, James W. and Gerald Higgins.

Funeral Mass will be held at noon on Friday, July 13th Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 323 North Taylor St. Marengo, IL 60152. Visitation in the Church Hall from 10:00 am until time of mass. Interment Sacred Hearts Cemetery.

Memorial may be made in her name to St. Joseph's Indian School, 1301 N. Main St., Chamberlain, SD 57325 or Divine Word Missionaries, 1835 Waukegan Rd., Techny, IL 60082.
