LAKE GENEVA, Wis. – Virginia J. Gehrke, 87, of Lake Geneva, Wis., died Saturday evening, Oct. 6, 2012, at Geneva Lake Manor in Lake Geneva.|
The former Virginia Jean Jajodzinski was born June 9, 1925, in Chicago, the daughter of the late Anton and Pearl Zygenda Jajodzinski. On May 12, 1945, in Woodstock, she was united in marriage to Arnold W. Gehrke. He preceded her in death Feb. 23, 1995. They lived in Woodstock before moving to Pell Lake, Wis., in 1961. They moved to Genoa City in 1964.
Virginia formerly worked at Shady Lane Playhouse, Hevi Duty in Lake Geneva and Woodstock Die Casting. She also was a farm wife. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Richmond and was involved in church activities. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the Lake Geneva Card Club. Her greatest passion was being a grandmother.
Virginia is survived by one daughter, Judy (Ed) Sokolowski of Elkhorn, Wis.; three sons, Thomas Gehrke of Genoa City, Wis., David (Cindy) Gehrke of LaFarge, Wis., and Jeffrey (Ester) Gehrke of Burlington, Wis.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Patricia (Bill) Gibson of Harvard and Dolores (Patrick) Slowey of Crystal Lake.
She was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Michael.
The Gehrke family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Haase-Lockwood and Associates Funeral Homes in Genoa City. Mass of Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Richmond. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Marengo.
