CRYSTAL LAKE - Walter A. Conrad Sr., 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, June 12, 2013.|
Walter was born Nov. 28, 1921, in Beitzen, Germany, and came to Crystal Lake when he was 6 years old and lived in the Chicago area most of his life.
Walter served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He was a machinist by trade, served in the police reserves and was a McHenry County deputy sheriff during his varied career.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Katherine; a brother, Rene; and a sister, Lori Bagshaw.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy (Hicks) Conrad; nine children, Grant Rader (Patti), Diane Cromack (John), Dorothy Cinkosky (Paul), Bobbi Hayes (Pat), Veronica Conrad, Cyd Wallace (John), Walter Jr., Nick and Teresa Graef (Ken); 14 grandchildren, Megan Moreau (Jeff), Ryan Hayes (Stacey), Jessica and Jennifer Conrad, Shea and Shelby Conrad, and Kelsey and Conrad Graef; and 10 great-grandchildren. Walter also is survived by his brother, Herb Conrad (Mary Ann).
Wally's favorite pastime was fishing, and had many fishing memories with his relatives and friends.
He also was active at First Baptist church in McHenry for 50 years where he had many friends.
The visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, until the time of service at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of McHenry, 509 N. Front St., McHenry. A luncheon will follow at the church gymnasium.
Burial will be in Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
