Wanda G. Palmer Obituary
JOHNSBURG – Wanda G. Palmer, 91, of Johnsburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at JourneyCare Hospice in Woodstock.
She was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Grayslake, to Jeppe and Arenta (Christensen) Jepsen. Wanda was raised and educated in the Johnsburg area. From age 13, she loved to sing and yodel. She sang for dances all over McHenry County and was known as Lulubelle Jepsen. She was thrilled to sing and yodel on WLS radio in the 1930s.
On Nov. 14, 1943, she married the love of her life, Harvey V. Palmer, at Ivanhoe Church in Mundelein. In 1973, they realized their lifelong dream by building and founding their business, Palmer's Four Seasons Gift Shop in Johnsburg. The store was a family operation, and Wanda and Harvey loved the interaction with their customers of all ages. They thoroughly enjoyed their retirement years doing everything needed at the store. The store remained a family operation until its closing when they were age 87.
She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan throughout her lifetime. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, she will be dearly missed by her entire family.
Survivors include three children, Sandra (Richard) Kollenkark of Johnsburg, Linda (Dennis) Petersen of McHenry and Rocky (Donna) Palmer of McHenry; nine grandchildren, Tami (John) Pawlik, Wayne (Mary) Kollenkark, Shane (Shereen) Petersen, Jason Petersen, Derek Palmer, Hanna Mays, Vaughn Mays, Sarah (Brian) Dulek and Megan Boyle; eight great-grandchildren, Josh and Ben Pawlik, Luke and Isaac Kollenkark, Ethan and Rilea Petersen and Kierra and Kaden Dulek; and a brother-in-law, Robert (the late Patricia) Palmer of Elmwood Park.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harvey, on June 17 of this year; her parents; a brother, Nils "Bud"; and three sisters, Betty, Marie and Lola.
Friends may meet the family from 10 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. memorial service Thursday, Oct. 17, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry. Inurnment will be in Ivanhoe Cemetery, Mundelein.
